Overview

Mild process to extract tasteless, functional protein isolates from rapeseed — a sustainable alternative-protein ingredient for food makers.

What they do

NapiFeryn BioTech, founded in Poland in 2014, is an alternative-protein ingredient company that has developed and patented a mild process to extract food-grade protein from rapeseed (canola). Crucially, the company sources its raw material from the side streams of oil pressing (rapeseed cake), upgrading a low-value by-product into a functional, largely tasteless and neutral-coloured protein isolate suitable for use in food products.

Lead program & status

The lead asset is its rapeseed protein isolate (marketed under the Raptein brand), pitched as a sustainable alternative to soy and animal proteins with comparable nutritional value. NapiFeryn has been supported by EU programs including the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument (since 2019) and EU-funded projects. In January 2023 the company closed a roughly €2.5M investment round led by Dutch Icos Capital, joined by a Polish family office, to move from development toward commercial-scale launch of its canola protein from large oil-pressing side streams.

Why it matters

Rapeseed is one of the world's most abundant oilseed crops, yet its protein has historically been hard to use in food because of taste and color. NapiFeryn's gentle extraction targets exactly that problem, offering food makers a locally sourced, sustainable plant protein and a higher-value use for an existing agricultural side stream.

FAQ

What protein does NapiFeryn BioTech produce?
A functional, near-tasteless rapeseed (canola) protein isolate, marketed under the Raptein brand, extracted via a mild patented process from the side streams of oil pressing.
Why is rapeseed protein notable?
Rapeseed is abundant and its protein is nutritionally comparable to soy, but it has been hard to use in food due to taste and color; NapiFeryn's gentle process aims to overcome that, creating a sustainable soy and animal-protein alternative.
Has NapiFeryn raised funding?
Yes. In January 2023 it closed a roughly €2.5M round led by Dutch fund Icos Capital, with a Polish family office participating, to support commercial launch.
